Blog Task 11: Sub-genres of Teen Drama Films

Youth Drama - This focus more on the social dilemmas that youth often are faced with. They are very popular because they are seen to be a real life and authentic representation of what teen life is like and the struggles along with it. This often portrays youth as rebellious or troublesome.

High School Drama - These where popular in the 70s 80s and 90s. They often celebrate the idea of youth being fun filled. In their films we see the female lead often go through changes and make overs to be accepted or to fit into a particular clique.

An example of a high school drama is Easy A. This film takes places in a high school and lies about different situations in order to fit into the most desired Clique and Social Group. Much like the definition states it is based on a female lead that is going through these changes.

An Example of a Youth Drama is Kidulthood. This film has been cited for being relatable to the life that teenagers are involved in or know about. It isn't necessarily authentic but it is more realistic than the contents of the Film Easy A
