Blog Task 10: Target Audience Research

What is a target audience?
A target audience is a particular group of which a film is aimed at e.g. High School films are aimed more at teenagers and young adults. Audiences are crucial for any media text as without an audience, there is no one to consume the product. One of the reasons why Teen Film is considered to be both a successful genre and an interesting one to study is because of its relationship with its audience. Teens are a useful demographic to target when marketing a teen film, however they may not be the only audience for the film. Therefore, there are two dominant ideas about Teen Films:

1. Teen Film is defined by its audience above anything else
2. The appeal of Teen Films isn't restricted to specific ages, eras or locations

Who is the target audience for Teen Dramas?
After doing some research on who is the expected target audience for both sub-genres of Teen Dramas, I found that they are mostly aimed at teenagers (15-19) and young adults (20-25) as they often relate to certain situations e.g. Cyber-bully portrays a young girl dealing with cyber bulling.
